People have been banging on about Chuck for ages and considering It’s only 5 minutes away from me It’s a bloody joke that It’s taken me this long to venture down there. The menu is good, for a little place in Hatch End you can’t really complain about what they have to offer, I wasn’t expecting much, what with my burger expectations being sky high these days but I was relatively impressed overall. I went in a big group, so I got to try a bit of everything. Ordering was hard, there are a LOT of good options to choose from but in the end I went for the Goats curd and Beets and the Buffalo Chicken Burger. My starter won me over purely because they made it look so pretty on the plate. I had no idea what I was eating but it was thoroughly enjoyable and looks brilliant in the picture. My main was alright, the idea of a buffalo chicken burger made with buttermilk fried chicken is delightful but it just wasn’t as good as it could have been. The chicken itself was more like a Tesco escalope than a buttermilk fried chicken breast and the lack of blue cheese dip was an issue. I liked my it but it was nothing to rave or write home about. I was unimpressed by the chips too, considering they were supposed to be triple cooked they weren’t very crispy and near enough everyone left theirs untouched. On a more positive note I thoroughly enjoyed the buffalo wings. On par with places in central London they could have been the winner if it wasn’t for the lack of blue cheese in the blue cheese dip. I tried some truffle mac ‘n’ cheese which I’d probably give a 6/10 and a bit of a burger which I probably wouldn’t give more than a 5. The cocktails were nice and the service was good. We got a dessert to share, which looked better than it tasted but came with a birthday sparkler so I’ll let them off. I’d go back, but not in a hurry, and I definitely wouldn’t order a burger and chips. I’d like to test out the breakfast and I’d like to go again. It’s recommended if you’re local but don’t go out your way. I’m sure if you order well you could love it there, I reckon you just need to try a few things to discover your favourite dishes. I want to like it, I want to give them a second (and maybe third) chance because I believe it has potential to be something special.
