The first of many: Chooks.

So the first review I did obviously had to be my current favourite; Chooks in Muswell Hill. If you know me you’ll know I’ve been banging on about this place for a while now and it doesn’t matter if it’s a little bit out the way, it’s worth it.

Chooks is located at 43 The Broadway, Muswell Hill and although It’s a half an hour drive from my house, I’m pretty sure that’s a small distance to go for the best corn on the cob, onion rings and fried chicken I’ve ever had. Honestly, the best. The corn on the cob is coated in butter, chilli, lime and parmesan and tastes like little knoblets of heaven. The onion rings are like crispy coated hoops of perfection and the buttermilk fried chicken, oh my GOD.

I reckon there isn’t a bad thing on the menu and I doubt you can go very wrong because I can safely say that I enjoyed every mouthful of food consumed under their roof.

The generous portion of buffalo chicken wings (this is apparently four) served with blue cheese dip are a must. I have a boyfriend that orders wings in almost every restaurant we go to so I’d like to think of myself as a bit of a connoisseur. They’re hotter than most buffalo wings but it’s totally bearable and as someone who doesn’t usually go for things that set your mouth on fire, I wouldn’t complain.

If you go for the first time you absolutely have to order the buttermilk fried chicken, mash & gravy. It’s the creamiest mash and yummiest gravy and crispiest chicken and the portions are so big you’ll definitely have some left over for breakfast

The second time I went I decided to try something different and went for the appropriately named Fat Pig burger – shredded pork, Chooks beans, melted Jack cheese, jalapenos, gherkins and bbq sauce. Oh wow, it was sensational. The pork was soft but crispy, the cheese was gooey and warm, the beans and the gherkins and the bbq sauce blended together so perfectly it was like they were never meant to be apart. (I removed the jalapenos because I’m a pussy but I’m sure they’re wonderful)

and if I haven’t already sold it to you, they do a deep fried Mars bar with hot chocolate sauce. Persuaded yet?
